Position Overview:

LLCA seeks a passionate and knowledgeable K-8 Art Teacher to provide a comprehensive visual arts education aligned with the Core Knowledge curriculum. The ideal candidate will inspire students to explore artistic expression while developing technical skills, historical appreciation, and an understanding of art’s role in shaping culture and civilization.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction & Curriculum Implementation:

• Teach visual arts classes to students in grades K-8, incorporating Core Knowledge Art content.
• Introduce students to famous artists, art movements, and historical artistic traditions as outlined in the Core Knowledge sequence.
• Develop students’ skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, and other artistic mediums.
• Foster an appreciation for classical, modern, and world art while encouraging creativity and individual artistic growth.
• Integrate cross-curricular connections between art, history, literature, and music to enhance students’ understanding of cultural heritage.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, ensuring all learners are challenged and supported.

Classroom & Student Engagement:

• Cultivate a structured, positive, and engaging classroom environment that supports creativity, respect, and critical thinking.
• Encourage students to analyze, interpret, and discuss artwork with a critical eye.
• Guide students in creating original works of art that reflect learned techniques and historical influences.
• Organize art displays, exhibitions, and school-wide art events to showcase student work.

Collaboration & Professional Development:

• Work collaboratively with K-8 teachers to integrate art with other subjects and support interdisciplinary learning.
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and curriculum planning to enhance art instruction.
• Communicate with parents about student progress and foster engagement in the school’s arts program.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field (required).
• North Carolina teaching license in Art (K-12) or willingness to obtain certification.
• Knowledge of the Core Knowledge curriculum and classical education philosophy (preferred).
• Experience teaching elementary and middle school art in a school setting.
• Strong understanding of art history, various artistic techniques, and studio art instruction.
• Ability to inspire and motivate students of all skill levels to appreciate and create art.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience incorporating Core Knowledge Art in lesson planning.
• Familiarity with classical artists, Renaissance art, and world artistic traditions.
• Skills in digital art, photography, or other contemporary mediums (a plus).
