Position Overview:
LLCA seeks a dedicated Middle School Science Teacher to instruct students in grades 6-8 using the Core Knowledge curriculum. The ideal candidate will be passionate about scientific exploration, hands-on learning, and fostering a deep understanding of natural phenomena. This teacher will guide students through the foundational principles of biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, and environmental science while emphasizing scientific inquiry and critical thinking.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum Implementation:
- Teach middle school science classes aligned with the Core Knowledge curriculum.
- Develop engaging, hands-on lessons, labs, and experiments to deepen student understanding.
- Foster scientific thinking by guiding students through the scientific method, hypothesis testing, and data analysis.
- Connect science content to historical and real-world applications to enhance learning.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
Classroom & Student Engagement:
- Create a structured, positive, and inquiry-based classroom environment that encourages curiosity.
- Facilitate STEM-related activities, science fairs, and interdisciplinary projects.
- Encourage students to question, analyze, and apply scientific concepts in daily life.
- Maintain high expectations for academic achievement and student behavior.
Collaboration & Professional Development:
- Work collaboratively with faculty to integrate science with other Core Knowledge subjects.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and curriculum planning.
- Communicate with parents regarding student progress and engage families in the learning process.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field (required).
- North Carolina teaching license in Science (or willingness to obtain).
- Knowledge of the Core Knowledge curriculum and classical education philosophy (preferred).
- Experience teaching middle school science in a school setting.
- Strong background in inquiry-based and hands-on science instruction.
- Passion for fostering scientific curiosity and critical thinking in students.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience incorporating Core Knowledge Science in lesson planning.
- Familiarity with STEM initiatives, lab safety procedures, and engineering concepts.
- Ability to integrate technology and digital resources into science instruction.
